Established in 1998 on a vineyard at Channybearup Road, Silkwood Estate is one of Pemberton's most celebrated cool-climate wineries. The cellar door and lakeside restaurant sit in a glass-fronted building looking out over a tranquil lake and surrounding karri forest, producing a setting that is hard to match in the Australian wine landscape.
Pemberton's combination of gravelly loam soils, high annual rainfall, and cool ripening temperatures makes it particularly well suited to Pinot Noir, Riesling, and Sauvignon Blanc, the varieties that define the Silkwood range. Knowledgeable cellar door staff guide visitors through an extensive portfolio of wines, with no formal tasting fee charged for standard tastings.
The on-site restaurant serves lunch using fresh, seasonal produce sourced from the local region, with each dish matched to wines from the estate. The dining room's floor-to-ceiling windows frame views of the lake and forest canopy, making it one of the more scenic lunch spots in the south west. Bookings are recommended for weekend lunch sittings.
Silkwood also operates lakeview chalets for those who want to stay overnight on the property. The winery makes a natural companion to a visit to Beedelup Falls or the Heartbreak Trail in Warren National Park.
