Born from the First Coat International Art Festival, this ever-growing outdoor gallery draws artists and admirers from around the world.
The First Coat festival began as a grassroots initiative to transform Toowoomba's urban streetscape into a living canvas. Over successive annual events, nationally and internationally renowned outdoor artists have left their mark on walls ranging from intimate laneways to multi-storey building sides, creating a collection that is both bold and diverse in style and subject matter.
Visitors can explore the gallery on a self-guided walk using the interactive map online or by downloading the free First Coat app. Works are spread across the city centre, meaning almost any stroll through Toowoomba's streets rewards the curious eye. The First Coat Studios and indoor gallery serves as a hub where visitors can collect printed maps and learn more about the artists involved.
Entry to the outdoor gallery is free, and the murals are accessible at any hour. The collection grows with each new festival, so no two visits are quite the same.
